THE TERESIAN CARMELITES SET UP A SPECIAL SCHOOL: The Congregation of the Teresian Carmelites (CTC) celebrated 150 years of their foundation on 20th February, 2016 with a solemn thanksgiving Eucharistic service and the inauguration of a newly built school known as Eliswan Kids.

HOLY CHILDHOOD DAY: Holy Childhood Day was celebrated on 14th February, 2016 with zeal and cheer at Kristo Jyoti Church, Kurmun.

REGIONAL PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING IN ASANSOL: The Regional Pastoral Council meeting was hosted by the Asansol Diocese on 18th February, 2016 organized by Fr. Panneer Selvam, the Deputy Secretary to the Regional Bishops of West Bengal, with the help of local religious communities and lay people of Asansol.

SEMINAR ON HEALTH PROMOTION: On 30th January, 2016, a one day seminar was organized at Bishop’ House, Asansol. The seminar was conducted by the founding member of the Health Promotion Trust, Fr. Rocky Banz from the Archdiocese of Bombay.

ASANSOL DIOCESAN PRIESTS ANNUAL MEETING: The Asansol Diocesan Priests had their Annual Meeting at Jeevandhara, Raiganj from 11th to 13th January, 2016. Fr. Stephen S.J. was the resource person for the meeting and his session was on “The Role of Priests during the Jubilee Year of Mercy”.

Rev. Fr. Valerian Fernandes died on February 6, 2016 and buried at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Asansol on February 9, 2016. May his soul rest in peace!

Catholic Church burnt in the Capital city of India

Asansol   20-01-2016

The Solemnity of Christ the King was celebrated on Sunday 25th November 2012 in the Archdiocese of Delhi at St. Columba’s School Grounds. The celebrations commenced with the arrival of a fleet of buses from the various parishes of the Delhi diocese, hence there were buses from the NCR (National Capital Region) comprising of faraway places in Gurgaon and Faridabad. Each parish announcing the occasion with a rainbow of colorful banners, different, yet, in unison. His Grace, Most Rev. Vincent M. Concessao, Archbishop with Most Rev. Franco Mulakkal, Auxiliary bishop, Fr. Vincent D’souza Vicar General, along with a host of priests in attendance celebrated the Holy Eucharist with fervor and reverence. Most Rev. Vincent M Concessao, Archbishop gave a thought provoking, meaningful and apt message. Led by Auxiliary bishop Franco Mulakkal, there was a procession after the Holy Eucharist, with the recitation of the rosary, prayers and singing in praise and worship in honour of Christ the King. The participants in the procession consisted of women, youth, children the aged and infirm. Interspersed, were Theme Floats, each with a proclamation of Christ the King-Our Universal King. The Blessed Sacrament exposed for worship and adoration on a beautifully flower decked vehicle covered the three kilometer long procession. It was a great celebration in which over ten thousand faithful actively participated. This year’s theme being- ‘Christ has opened a door of faith for us’ - on this and various other relevant social themes, messages were put across by parishes and enacted by children and the youth, who prepared eye-catching floats which were taken on the procession route . The feast, celebrated on the final Sunday of the liturgical year, which is the last Sunday before Advent, is in honour of Jesus Christ - Our Lord Over All Creation.

Archbishop Anil Joseph Thomas Couto was born in Porvorim Village of Bardez, the Archdiocese of Goa and completed his schooling and seminary studies there.In 1967 he joined the minor seminary.He completed philosophy in 1973 and did regency in 1976 at Boys Town, Prem Nagar, Quepem, Goa.In 1977 he joined the Archdiocese of Delhi and completed theology studies in 1981 from Vidyajyoti college of theological studies. He was ordained priest on February 8, 1981. followed by two months each at Paharganj and Cathedral. In 1981 he went for mission experience at Varanasi. In 1982 (four months) he was sent as an Assistant Parish Priest at St. Joseph’s Church, NIT-5, Faridabad. Between 1982-1988 he was appointed Priest-in-Charge of ‘Prabhat’, Catholic Church, Rohtak. In 1988 he was appointed Assistant Parish Priest at St. Michael’s Church, Prasad Nagar and Principal of St. Michael’s Junior School. In 1991 he became the Rector of ‘Pratiksha’, Major Seminary, Delhi. Between 1991 - 1994 he Completed M.Th. in Ecumenism at Vidyajyoti. Thereafter between 1994-1998 he went for his Doctorate in Ecumenical Theology at St. Thomas Aquinas Pontifical University (Angelicum), Rome. On his return in 1998 he was appointed Rector of 'Vinay Gurukul' Minor Seminary, Gurgaon. He was appointed Episcopal Vicar in 1999 and appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Delhi & Titular Bishop of Cenculiana on January 17, 2001. His Episcopal Ordination was held on 11th March, 2001. He was appointed Bishop of Jalandhar on 24th February 2007 and installed as Bishop of Jalandhar on April 16, 2007. Appointed Archbishop of Delhi on 30th November 2012. Installed as Archbishop of Delhi on 20th January 2013.
